菅野城はc甕石山城・亀石山城 とも呼ばれます。平山式城で 賀陽地区吉川南正行の北緯34度49分16秒・東経133度45分18秒付近の  標高約３７０m  高さ約２０mの山が「菅野城跡」です。石垣 堀 基礎石 大手 搦手跡Karamete-atoを残します。菅野城跡は 独立した 仙蔵坊下池 仙蔵や 仙蔵坊上池の南の山の頂部にあります。水田を挟んで ２５０ ｍ西方を程 西方を 大山道が南 北に走ります。菅野城跡から 南西 ３５０ ｍの大山道沿いに  吉川八幡宮が 建っています。丘陵の頂部の主郭と思われる曲輪は 略 台形をしていて、周囲には５０ｃｍ～ ２ｍの高さの土塁が 巡っています。城地の最高所に 小祠が 祀られています。小祠を祀る部分は 虎口になっています。主郭を巡る土塁は 南側の方形の曲輪と 西の帯状の曲輪に 隣接している箇所で 途切れています。主郭の曲輪の西から 南側には 幾つかの小さい曲輪があります。南の曲輪は 西側  南側 及び東側の三 方を 土塁が 囲んでいて、土塁の東端は 主郭の曲輪から延びる 土塁に繋がっています。方形の曲輪の東から 南の裾部には 横堀と 土塁が 設けられています。帯状の曲輪もの周囲に土塁が巡っています。方形の曲輪と 帯状の曲輪の間には 横堀 が 巡っています。

吉備郡史には「甕石山城、又、亀石山城が 大井村大字粟井に在り、山の半腹に 亀に似たる石あり 故に名つく  其の地を瓮石Kameisi瓶石と云う  頂上に城址あり　城主 土師刑部少輔 土師玄蕃 又云城主土師修理 長臣森孫九郎 子孫 福谷村大字西山ノ内 字井田に在り  清和天皇十代の後胤Kouin 森二郎頼貞 五代孫太郎義長末裔Matueiなり」と 記されています。戦国時代の城主は 土師兵部尉道継（土師作兵衛）。永禄２年９月（この年は毛利軍が九州に遠征した年で、乱取りは元亀２年（1571）］説もあります）、宇喜多直家 伊賀久隆が 竹之荘 吉川 中津井等が犯した、又は 領土を主張した（乱取刈田、刈田狼藉）時の久隆の部下です。城跡の麓の周囲は 約１５０メートル で 石垣はなく 上部は 平坦で 石塀 土塁跡 礎石等があります。天正の頃 虎倉城の支配下に 土師兵部尉が 居城しました。伊賀久隆亡き後は 宇喜多直家に与しました。土師兵部尉は 大井方面防備に 福谷村の亀山城に 移りました。その子 土師玄蕃之介道本が 城主を継ぎました「上房郡史」。 The another name of Sugano-jyou/castle is Kameisi-yama-jyou    The ruins of Sugano-jyou are located on the southern mountain of 4091 Yosikawa-Kyoumen  “N34.49.16 E133.45.1”    Remains of stone walls, moats, foundation stones, main gate, the back gate and so on are remained    It is written in Kibigun-si “ History of Kibi-county” that 「Kameisi-yama-jyou (jar-shaped stone mountain castle ) or Kameisi-yama-jyou (turtle-shaper stone mountain castle) is in Awai  in Ooi-mura/village    This castle was called Kameiwa-yama-jyou as there is a stone which is similar to a turtle, at the mountain-side , and the place is called Kameisi （jar shaped stone）    There are the ruins of castle on the top    The lords of this castle were Gyoubu Syouyuu Haji, Genba Haji who was a son of Gyoubu or Syuuri Haji, and it is said that the lord was Magokurou Mori who was the first retainer of Syuuri, the descendants of Syuuri lived in Nisiyama-no-uti Hukutani-mura/village    Tamesada Jirou Mori was a 10th descendant from emperor Seiwa, and Yosinaga Mago-tarou Mori was 5th descendant from Tamesada」 Mititugu Hyoubu-no-jyou Haji is the lord who was a liege subject of Hisataka Iga when Hisataka Iga and Naoie Ukita invaded Take-no-syou, Yosikawa and Nakatui or claimed territorial rights over the areas in 1559 or1571    After Hisataka Iga was killed by Naoie Ukita with a toxin, Mititugu took the side of Naoie Ukitsa's    Mititugu moved to Kame-yama-jyou in Hukutani-mura to defend Ooi-district against Mouri clan    Mitimoto Genba-no-suke Hiji who was a son of Mititugu, succeeded the lord of the castle

吉川京免4091番地の南の道を 東に進む と登山道が 整備されています。登山道に 従がい南に向き 山を登り、途中 右に曲がる登山道を登ると 頂上を囲む平坦地の犬走りが有ります。犬走りは ２ｍを越えそうな作壁で 遮られ、壁の所々が 石垣で補強されています。南側に もう一本の登山道が有り、これが 搦手で 麓に通じています。搦手の位置で 曲輪は 二重になっていています。西方に延びる曲輪の方が長く、東方に延びる曲輪は 僅かに延びるだけです。頂上は 広大な円形の平坦地で 一部の辺縁部に 土塁が有り、土塁の上 に 摩利支天社が 祀られています。 ここが 菅野城の主郭でしょう。山全体を探索しましたが、亀の甲羅状の石は 見つかりませんでした。 仙蔵坊池の奥の相対する 隣の北緯34度49分20秒・東経133度45分24秒の山には 井戸跡らしき遺構と 亀甲型に割れた岩がありますので この山も菅野城の一部なのでしょうか。しかしここには 空堀 作平地 土塁 等 山城を思わせる遺構は ありません。　 If you go toward the east along the southern road of 4091 Yosikawa-Kyoumen,  a mountain trail is maintained    Follow the trail and go toward the south and climb along  the mountain trail that turns toward the right on the way, there is Inubasiri “berm” which is the flatland surrounding the peak     The Inu-basiri is blocked by the wall which seems to exceed 2ｍ    The walls are reinforced with stone walls at here and there    There is another mountain trail on the south side, this was Karamete “rear gate” and it leads to the mountain foot    The enclosures are double in the position of the Karamete, the one that extends toward the west is longer, and the another extends slightly toward the east    The summit is a vast circular flat land, here is an earthen wall in some marginal areas, a Marisiten-sha/shrine is enshrined on the earthen wall    This is the main closure of Sugano-jyou’s ruins    I explored the whole mountain, but I could not find a turtle shell-shaped stone   Because there are a broken stone like turtle shell and the remains of a well in the faced mountain “34 degrees 49 minutes 20 seconds north latitude, 133 degrees 45 minutes24 seconds east longitude” where is the back of Senzoubou-ike/pond, this mountain might be a part of Sugano-jyou, too　However, there is no dry moat, no unnatural flat land and no earthen wall etc. which are remnants of mountain castle   千蔵坊：４１５１番地（北緯34度49分27秒・東経133度45分21秒）等    門口：吉川３８７８番地    城ノ先・城ノ崎：吉川３９８０－３９８７・３９８９－３９９４番地    城ノ下：吉川３９２６・３９９９・４０１４・４０９４・４１２４番地等 　   平成２６年（２０１４年）１０月１７日
