馬越城は 馬越山城とも 呼ばれます。岨谷城山1990番地の東の山の頂上 北緯34度46分28秒・東経133度43分40秒辺り(吉備中央町と総社市の境)が「馬越城跡」です。戦闘に係る 歴史的記述を 見付けられませんでしたが、奥樋城（伊達弾正館）の支城でしょう。 岨谷野俣の手前 馬越橋が 赤の谷川を渡る地点に進むと、そこから 南東に見える山が 馬越城跡です。

賀陽町史追補版に「馬越の城山は 大字岨谷の馬越と栩谷Totitaniとの境に吃立し、馬越から 栩谷へ通じる道が 切通しとなって 北側の山脈から孤立している。南麓は 総社市槙谷の山端Yama-hana部落としての地名も 残っており 南麓の部落を 山端ということも 城山の端hanaの意を現すものか。栩谷部落の横田氏は 野山家三家老の家筋と 伝えられているから  戦国の頃  野山家領分の東南端のこの地に 築城して  領地の守備を担当した と考えれば 野山城等と 時代を等しくするものであろうが、それは 単なる想像であって 詳細は不明である」と 記載されます。 岨谷乢ノマヘ1943番地の 東の車庫の前の階段を ジグザグに登ります。山の中腹辺りに 平坦地が有り、２つの祠が祀られています。祀られる神は 疣Iboの神様と 何やら解りませんが 耳の神様かさえの神様らしき神様です。２つの祠から 山の頂上に向かうと 高台となる頂上は 平坦地になっています。一部に 土塁らしき遺構が有り、東は槙谷ダムに なっています。周囲から 孤立した山であり、はっきりした犬走りや堀切は無く、戦国時代の山城としての 厳しい戦闘に対応できる 地形をなしていません。頂上の平坦地に 妙見神社が 祀られています。大阪交野の妙見宮を 勧進したと言われます。The ruins of Makosi-jyou/castle is on the border line between Kibityuuou-tyou/town and Soujya-si/city where is on the top of isolated eastern mountain of 1990 Suwatani-Siroyama   The peoples call Makosi-jyou or Makosiyama-jyou too    I think that it was a branch castle of Okuhi-jyou and the lord of this castle were Yokota clan who were chief retainers of Noyama clan    The west side of the mountain is Aka-no-tani-gawa/river, the east side is Makitani-damu/dam    Two shrine in which god of ear “ sai-no-kami:god of keeping out evil spirits” and god of wrath “Susanou-no-mikoto” are enshrined, are built on the half way up the mountain   The geographical structure which have no moat and no berm and a partial earthwork, the castle probably can not put to practical use sufficiently as castle in the age of civil wars  The Myouken-jinjya/shrine is enshrined on the flat land at the top   It is said that it was transferred a divided tutelary deity of Myouken-guu/shrine in Kouno Oosaka to here
